MEET HEATHER

I Have Walked The Valley

I was her. The high-achieving woman who looked like she had it all: intelligence, faith, loving husband, financial stability and a bright future as a physician. And yet, she was quietly dying on the inside.

As an ER physician, I know what real exhaustion looks like. I've seen it in my patients and in my colleagues. And I've lived it myself - not just the long shifts and the weight of life-and-death decisions, but a more insidious, deeper darkness that arrived slowly, shrinking my world and taking over my mind.

I know how painful it is to believe God is absent.

I remember sitting cross-legged on the couch in a dark apartment with thoughts spinning out of control.

I remember sending up tearful, desperate prayers, only to have them bounce off the ceiling and cause me to start crying again.

I know what it is to believe the lie that everyone would be better off without me.

I watched a pastor take a physical step backward when he saw the emptiness and desperation in my eyes.

But God met me there.

I have walked through the valley of the shadow of death three times. God walked with me in the valley and brought me through.

Not because I finally got my act together. Not because I performed well enough, or prayed enough, or got holy enough. Not because I had super-faith or did anything to deserve it.

Just because He is who He says He is.

And because I am as precious and valuable as He says I am.

An old hymn became my lifeline in those darkest moments:

Because He lives, I can face tomorrow. Because He lives, all fear is gone. Because I know He holds the future. And life is worth the living just because He lives.

Coming through the valley changed everything.

I began to understand that the mean girl voice in my head (I call her Sylvia) isn't the enemy I had thought. She is a frightened part of me that needs compassion, not warfare. And all that perfectionism and people pleasing, as holy as they looked, were quietly stealing the peace and identity God had already declared mine.

I trained as a life coach and created Sunflower Christian Coaching — not because I had it all figured out, but because I wanted to walk this road with other women.

Women who are exhausted from performing.

Women who are tired of doing all the things for God when all they really want is to hear from God and to feel God again.

Women who have never had anyone look them in the eye and say: you don't have to try so hard. Your worthiness was settled before you drew your first breath. Your belovedness is an indisputable fact of your existence that cannot be changed by anything you do or don't do.

That woman is why I do this work.

And friend, if you've read this far, I think that woman might be you.

What we do

At Sunflower Christian Coaching, I help Christian women professionals overcome perfectionism and people pleasing, allowing them to create lives of true joy and lasting peace.

This isn't about fixing. This is about stepping into the truth of who God says you really are. You are not broken. You are a beloved daughter of God who has been carrying beliefs that were never yours to carry and hustling for love an acceptance that is already yours. Together, we get curious about those beliefs, bring God's truth to meet them, and gently dismantle them at the roots — so you can finally stop performing for peace and start living from it.

"The one who calls you is faithful and He will do it."
1 Thessalonians 5:24

Coaching vs therapy

Coaching vs. therapy: What's the difference?

Think of it this way: a sports coach and a physical therapist are both part of an athlete's team of helpers, but they occupy different roles.

A physical therapist steps in when there's an injury. Her job is to treat the injury, help you heal, and get you back on your feet.

A coach is there for everything else. She's in your corner before the game, during the game, and at every practice in between. She sees the big picture you can't see while on the field, making adjustments, offering insights, and helping you become the skilled, confident, unstoppable the player God created you to be. She's not managing your performance; she's drawing out your potential.

Coaching is for women who are ready — not for perfection, not for arrival, but for the honest, grace-filled work of becoming the woman God always created you to be.

If you are in crisis right now — if the weight you're carrying has made daily life feel impossible, or if there is unprocessed trauma that needs tending — the most loving thing I can tell you is this: please reach out to a licensed therapist.

That is not a detour from healing. That is healing.

And when you're back on your feet and ready to take the next step, I'll be here.

Are you my doctor?

I am a physician — but I am not your physician, and I want to be clear about that distinction.

Sunflower Christian Coaching exists to offer life coaching, not medical care. Nothing on this website, in my emails, or in any of my materials should be understood as medical advice, counseling, or therapy. I do not diagnose or treat medical conditions through this work, and no physician-patient relationship is created or implied through Sunflower Christian Coaching or the Christian Coaching Center, LLC.

What I offer is mindset-focused coaching — grounded in faith, centered in grace, and aimed at helping you experience the joy and peace that are already yours in Christ.

If you have medical concerns, please reach out to your primary care physician.

Who needs a coach?

Every woman deserves a coach — someone who sees her potential, her beauty, her worthiness, and her lovability clearly, especially when she can't see it for herself. If you're looking for this kind of life coaching grounded in Biblical truth and grace, we might be a perfect fit.

Is coaching confidential?

Your story is sacred, and so is your trust. I am committed to honoring both. While Indiana law does not recognize a formal coach-client privilege, what you share in our sessions stays in our sessions — held in confidence to the fullest extent the law allows.

How long does it typically take to see results?

Many women leave their very first session with a shift they can feel — a new way of seeing or experiencing a thought pattern that has had them stuck for years. But here's what I've found: once you experience the power of coaching for yourself, you won't want to stop. This work has a way of illuminating blind spots, healing old wounds, forging new paths and unlocking doors in walls you didn't know you could walk through.
